Tournament Team Policy (Ancaster Baseball)

PrintTournament Team Policy

The league supports age specific tournament teams from T-ball to Major age. To that end we will be supporting teams in the ages of 7-8-9-10-11-12 with ages aligned by Little League guidelines of the player's age on August 30. These teams will all have numerous choices of play with teams in LL District 1, private tournaments and SOBA tournaments. Tryout dates will be made available to all league members and all players in each division are welcome to try out.

As a Little League organization we will make efforts to place our strongest team in the District Championships. Players in the Minor division aged 9-10 will be eligible to tryout for the Minor All Star team and all players in the Major division aged 11-12 are eligible to tryout for the Major All Star team. Players must be on a house league roster in their appropriate division to qualify for these teams and they must reside within our Little League Boundaries.  These two teams will be assembled in June with the sole intent of playing in the Districts or further and will disband following elimination.

It is the league's intention to have separate tournament teams from the Little League all star teams to create the maximum opportunities in total numbers of players in more competitive ball, while also fielding our strongest possible entry into the Little League championships.

Any player registered in the league is eligible for play on a tournament team. Only players that reside within our Little League boundaries are eligible for the Major and Minor all star teams.

Players in the Rookie Ball division have two options. All players registered in this division can tryout for the Rookie Ball tournament team, while those aged 7-8 are also eligible for the T-ball tournament teams. Player or team eligibility for participation in the World T-ball tournament is subject to the house league roster eligibility as defined in the tournament rules. No player may be on the roster of two separate tournament teams unless with league approval due to roster shortages.

In the event that there are insufficient numbers to form a team at any specific age, players may be added from within that age division. (i.e. 9's or 10's within the Minor division) This must be based solely on there being a lack of players expressing interest and not based on their alleged abilities. (i.e. if 12 players of age 9 try out for a nine year old team, 3 cannot be released to make room for 3 players of age 10) This would safeguard the ability to keep as many players involved with more play and development while protecting the integrity of the age specific system.

In all cases we can not predict the number of players in any age group and will continue to encourage all players to try to strive higher and develop their skills. If warranted the Directors will make decisions on adjustments to additional players if there are not sufficient players on a team. The objective is not to take the best players from a younger team and weaken it but to develop additional players to compliment both teams. The Directors will continue to review this policy, and all others, and make minor adjustments if needed.
